I am to state that I myself worming my birds twice in a year prior to flying
season (Winter) i.e. in the month of October-November and in summer, in the
month of April-May.
These two subjects, sanitation and disease prevention, are so closely allied
that they must be considered together. Sanitation is basic in disease
prevention. as basic as isolation.
Across the Los Angeles shipyards in early morning there runs a freeway
passing over allowing many commuters to travel to downtown each day. What
may catch your eye in the early hours is the countless thousands of pigeons
flying over the freeway in an almost endless stream.

My love of pigeons started at the early age of nine. I was fortunate to have
had an uncle who kindly built me a small loft and in this I kept quite a
variety - two fantails, four bald black and white tumblers and a couple of
cross homers.

It has often been said that not enough help is given to Novices from the top
flying men. Could I say straight away that much advice and the many methods
freely available for those who seek them does not guarantee success. The
reason being that without constant management nothing is foolproof.

On the morning of the Summer series 1, after checking the bands with my
timer David Dean, I took the birds out in the backyard and waited until 4:37
A.M. to release them. The sky was cloudy and we could see the birds flying
as a kit and going to North.

Once you have settled your tipplers that you intend and hope to enjoy their
flying performance, you will select a kit of the better performers. I would
suggest you try for a five bird kit in that way you will have lee way should
any go off form when you approach your intended long flying day.
