Settling Pigeons Quickly

At the outset, I would say settling pigeons is a difficult task. As it requires a lot of patience and alertness.

Patience, because the pigeons will take time to settle, and Alertness, because during the settling time, the pigeons are vulnerable to attacks from predators like falcons, in general. To settle the pigeons, there are many ways. But, I follow the following two procedures and have been very successfull with them.

1) Using pins to tie their primaries and

2) Tying their primaries using thread.

For tying the primaries using a pin, you need to hold all the primaries together and insert the pointed edge of a pin in the first primary and allow it to pass-through all the remaining primaries without damaging them and then insert the pointed edge of the pin in the tenth primary and pin them together.

Feathers can also be tied using a sewing needle and a thread. Bring all the primaries closer. Next, carefully, hold the first primary feather and tenth primary feather leaving the remaining primaries without damaging them and sew them (1st and 10th primaries) together using the sewing needle.

After tying their primaries, you need to allow them to get acquainted with the loft by putting them on the loft daily for 2 to 3 hours. After 2-3 hours, bring them down on the floor, feed them and give them ample amount of water for drinking and then put them in the loft.

Everyday, for 20 days, you need to follow the same routine and then on 21th day untie their primaries and leave them on the loft. Do not frighten them. They will start flying slowly and come down to the loft as per their wish daily. Within a few days, they will get acquainted with the loft and settle down.
