Hey Neen I got a topic for ya.....
So here is the thing....my settling percentages as you know are mediocre at
best. Yes I know all the different variables that affect the outcome such as
loft position, droppers, flying position settling method, falcons/hawks,
etc, etc. With Tipplers I think there is more at play because of the
endurance factor....fair enough. Having said that, the one thing that still
strikes me as odd is when all the factors remain constant why then do the
number of settled birds not improve over the years even when having bred
from stayed birds? Each year I lose way more than I stay. Having bred from
birds that did stay the year before naturally you would think the trait
would be passed onto the offspring. It seems tippler fanciers in general
experience same losses no matter the strain, even though majority have been
bred from birds that were settled. Now why is this I ask....if desirable
traits of homing and intelligence are passed on from these stayed birds why
does it appear with tipplers this particular factor just does not seem to
improve no matter the hereditary influence? I could use a good answer as I'm
expecting eggs in a few days and come early April they will all be going up
come hell or high water :-)
