good question,and a very simple answer, unless the bird is genetically
predisposed for endurance flying,there is nothing one can do,no feed or
training will help. However,a well bred bird if mishandled wont perform up
to it's potential. Therefore the correct answer to your question would be;
It is genetics,and everything else that one does (correctly) will enhance a
chance for a successful long flying.However, we always should pay
attention when we select our breeding stock,and only the very best,are good
enough to put in to breeding. If, or when we notice the slighted fault in
our birds,we should start looking for a suitable out cross ,showing strength
where we are lucking in our own stock.

Now dealing with the sound family of birds,handling is everything,starting
with the good balanced diet before the birds are paired,during seating on
the eggs (hens might get heavy) correct balanced feeding of the parents
while feeding the young,and right feed for the young ones before,during and
after training fly's.

Here is what I believe is important; breeding,(genetic) training/training
feed and final feed up (common sense) weather.. even here with the correct
feeding/training we could achieve our goal.
