Thanks Dave, You're spot on, I don't have a particularly big flight, so the
chances of carrying internal fat is quite high but still, it's quite unusual
for this particular hen, she's maybe ten years old, has always been a very,
very well conditioned and very fertile hen, has never ever lost body
condition during any breeding season. I do feed the best available
commercial depuritive during off breeding season, bringing it down to 50/50
straight barley and hard durrum wheat to trim condition further, which is
why this one has me really stymied.
Just checked her in the hospital pen, looking Ok, will try the steam
tonight, but will take no chances and get her off to the vet ASAP tomorrow.
Your tip about the calcium tablet tells me it maybe time for me to start the
liquid calcium program for the hens.
