The late Frank Cochrane had a lot of Sam Laurie's birds. He got the pick of
the breeders when Sam died. I believe that Eddie Robinson , Henry Hunt ,
Yawney Adams all had Sam Laurie's birds. Yawney had nothing but Sam's birds.

They were on the large side. Sam Laurie and another fancier imported birds
into Canada back in the late 1920's or early thirty's. The name of the other
gentleman escapes me at the moment. I know his name well but just can't
think of it. Must be due to old age. Ha. He was one of the first guys too
fly the blues. Hardly seen a blue when I was a kid. We had them but they
were not common. To get a bird from these guys was very hard. If you did it
usually wasn't one of the best. Not if you lived in Toronto anyways. To
quote a top fancier at that time. And I won't mention his name as he can't
defend himself due to his passing on." You never sell a pigeon that can come
back and beat you." This is no disrespect to the fancier. It just seem to be
common practice. I would imagine it might have been different if they were
selling pigeons to the U.S.A. Those birds could not come back to beat them.
Anyways Sam Laure and Eddie Robinson were legends way back then. Now it's
guys like Oskar Zovic and Nino that are my hero's now. Ha. It's sure not for
their looks. Ha. It won't be long now and I will be their hero. Ha. When I
get back into the game. With their birds. Ha. And I'm a lot better looking
than they are. Ha. Well I have shot my mouth off enough. Better go.

Wayne,

I'm happy that Brian was able to get some very good birds from OMB. He
should do very well with them being that you are his coach! Let me know if I
can be of help, I'm sure others will help if asked.

Cochrane and Robinson tipplers from Toronto

Canada, yes I know the names. Eddie Robinson was an old timer that I never
met, I was able to get some tipplers from Frank Cochrane way back in the
early 70's. What I actually got was some birds that were from another
fancier whose name escapes me at this moment. Eddie Robinson gave or sold
tipplers to Frank Cochrane, etc. At one time, Cochrane was the secretary or
President of one of the tippler clubs in Toronto, there were two clubs. In
the late 60's, a youngster by the name of Michael Seiler traveled to Toronto
and got some of the Cochrane tipplers ( the Robinson tipplers) and flew
them. Now, Michael Seiler was a friend of the late Fred Ehrbach of Long
Island, NY and it was Fred who coached the young Michael. Fred Ehrbach held
the record for many years until Mike Beat and his kit flew the new record
time. Fred's record time was 17 plus hours. So, it was Michael Seiler of
Bloomfield,NJ that actually had the Eddie Robinson tipplers and flew them
very well considering, etc. Mike Seiler was a member of the old ATU and
,maybe the FTA but don't quote me on that. Mike has raised 'Short Face'
variety of tipplers for many years now and has no tipplers at all.

The fancier that can really shed some light on the subject of Eddie Robinson
is Oskar Zovic. Maybe, Danny Kinnear or Nino have some info' about these
guys. But Oskar is the one to ask, my knowledge about this is limited.

I hope that I have been of some help.
