[From: Beni] I seen a couple birds with leg feathers not a like a trumpeter
but just a little bit. I was wondering are these pure tipplers? The breeder
said they are so bred tight that sometimes you get muffs like that. What's
the verdict?

Beni,

There can be two possibilities. First one is that there is a non-E tippler
cross in recent years. Second is, If breeder is certain/honest that nothing
is brought in but family is heavily in-bread then what you witnessed is Law
of Reversal. In other words due to poor selection and heavy inbreeding
process is reversed and whatever was crossed into that family of birds
decades ago is coming out.

These are pit falls of poor selection for breeding stock & heavy heavy
inbreeding. If breeder is careful a timely out cross is brought in then
family Phenotype/look can be maintained as well as vigor. Breeding is art if
breeder understands what progeny is showing then one can move forward to
make it better or move backwards to undo what was previously done. I have
seen some of the top birds getting destroyed in matter of 4-8yrs.

Some time too too pure is useless by itself but great for out cross.
